The Aldwych Theatre London

The Aldwych Theatre was built by Seymour Hicks in association with the American impresario Charles Frohman. It was designed by W. G. R. Sprague (who was also responsible for the Waldorf Theatre and the new block then being planned in Shaftesbury Avenue). Its builder was Walter Wallis of Balham.

There can be no other theatre in the world which has two such distinct and diverse claims to fame as having been the home of farce and the home of the internationally renowned Royal Shakespeare Company.

BARS
The Dress Circle bar opens 1 hour before each performance, the Stalls bars & Upper Circle bar open 30 minutes before each performance.
Coffee and confectionary available in the Rear Stalls & Dress Circle Bars.
A Champagne & Wine Bar is situated to the right of the Front Stalls.

MERCHANDISE
Souvenirs of the show (programmes, t-shirts, posters, cds, lapel pins, caps etc.) are available before and after the show and during the interval. Click the images for examples.

Confectionary is also available before the performance. Ice cream, confectionary, tea, coffee and orange juice are available during the interval.

TRAVEL
Nearest Underground: Covent Garden (Piccadilly line)/Temple (Circle & District line)
From Covent Garden turn right (south) towards the market. Turn left and walk around the piazza clockwise, taking the first left hand (east) exit along Russell Street. Keep on Russell Street past the Theatre Royal before turning right (south) onto Drury Lane. The theatre is at the bottom of Drury Lane on Aldwych crescent.
From Temple exit via Temple Place and head left (west). Turn right on to Surrey Street, and then left onto the Strand. Cross to the north side of the Strand at Somerset House, and head follow the Aldwych cresecent. The theatre is about 50m on the left, at the bottom of Drury Lane.

Nearest Rail: Charing Cross
Exit via the Strand, cross the road to the north side of the Strand, and head right (east). The theatre is at the very end of the Strand on the Aldwych crescent.

Parking: NCP Drury Lane, Parker Street. Meters around theatre.

DISABLED FACILITIES
Seats are available in the third row of the Dress Circle for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users must have an able bodied escort. Access to the theatre is from Drury Lane. The theatre has a separate disabled person's lavatory. The theatre now has a loop system. For further information telephone 020 7379 3367
