In 1959, Berry Gordy, a successful songwriter with his first
big hit, Reet Petite, with Detroit born Jackie Wilson under
his belt, decided to form his own record company and so, in a
timber frame bungalow at 2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit,
Tamla Motown Records was born.
Over the years, Motown has become synonymous with some of the
greatest names in black soul music – the Four Tops, the
Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson Five, Gladys Knight and
the Pips, the Commodores, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross and the
Supremes – the list is endless.
Dancing in the Streets then, celebrates the best of Motown
with hits like: I Heard It Through The Grape Vine, Baby Love,
My Girl, I'll Be There, Where Did Our Love Go? Please Mr
Postman, ABC, You Can't Hurry Love, Tears Of A Clown and, of
course, the title song itself.
The show is directed by Keith Strachan, designed by Sean
Cavanagh, with choreography by Carole Todd. It is presented by
Paul Walden & Derek Nicol for Flying Music, the team behind
The Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas, now in its third
sensational year in the West End.
PLEASE NOTE - Strobe lighting is used in this production.
